Active Staff offers a range of free sports and activities on both campuses especially for staff. Sessions are relaxed and suitable for all levels of fitness. Lunch-break friendly sessions are long enough to get you moving and short enough to fit around your daily commitments.

Get rewarded – Grab a loyalty card from an Activator at any session, collect stamps each time you come along and collect your rewards.

A low impact session to help improve strength, flexibility and posture whilst remaining in a seated position.This session is perfect if you're looking to become more active in a gentle way due to low physical fitness or if you have had injuries in the past. Our instructor can offer adaptations to exercises if you speak with her before the start of the session.It is a sweat free session so you can just come along in your office wear!

Our daily mile champions (staff members at the University) will meet you at a designated point and lead you on a 30 minute walk each day.The lunch time walk is a fantastic way of keeping fit and getting away from your desk it has so many benefits. Research shows that regular walking actually modifies your nervous system so much that you'll experience a decrease in anger and hostility. What's more, the daily mile is social and that interaction with other colleagues helps you feel connected!

Judo

Judo is the ‘way of gentleness’. A wonderful system of physical, intellectual and moral education, it’s the most popular combat sport in the world. This Active Staff session is for beginners. Have fun, develop confidence and trust, improve flexibility and balance. Taught in a safe, structured and fun way, where else can you learn to strangle your colleague?!!

Yoga helps to makes the body both strong and flexible.  It also improves the functioning of the respiratory, circulatory, digestive, and hormonal systems. Yoga brings about emotional stability and clarity of mind. No experience is needed, led by a fully-qualified instructor; the session is designed so that you can develop skills and postures while taking it at your own pace.

The routines feature fast and slow rhythms and resistance training combined to tone and sculpt your body while burning fat. Add some Latin flavours and international zest into the mix and you’ve got Zumba. It’s an effective, aerobic workout and more than that it is FUN and that is why we know you will be back!

Tai Chi is a chinese exercise system that uses slow, smooth body movements to achieve a state of relaxation for the body and mind, perfect for after a long day of lectures to unwind and relax. Students are taught the art through philosophy and a series of exercises in order to learn to recognize and discipline the inner energy flow (Chi). Developing this art benefits the whole nervous and intrinsic systems and brings total control, harmony and awareness to the mind and body. No prior experience is needed as everyone is new to this sessions so just bring along your ID card and give it a go.
