The University of Hertfordshire’s Basketball programme continues to build momentum as a rising force in UK university sport, with the team winning the 2024/25 BUCS South Premier Division—the top tier of university basketball competition.
Renowned for its player development and progression, the programme maintains a strategic partnership with local professional club Hemel Storm, providing talented athletes with direct opportunities to compete in the National Basketball League (NBL) Division 1 or Division 3. This strong link between university and professional-level basketball gives student-athletes a competitive edge and a clear path toward high-level play.
Herts Basketball has already produced standout talent, including Aaryn Rai, the 2024/25 SLB MVP and London Lions player, Matt Ellis, who has competed professionally in the UK, Portugal, and Argentina, and Bernard Hehetro, a current NBL Division 1 athlete.
Off the court, players benefit from a fully supported student-athlete experience. The programme includes access to free Health & Fitness membership, Strength & Conditioning coaching, on-site Physiotherapy, lifestyle support, and academic flexibility—ensuring athletes can succeed both in their sport and in their studies.
