The University of Hertfordshire’s Performance Netball programme has been the flagship of Herts Performance Sport for over a decade—and with good reason. Recognised as one of the most successful and respected university netball programmes in the UK, Herts Netball combines elite competition, professional pathways, and outstanding student-athlete support.
Over the past 10 years, Herts has consistently competed at the highest level, with multiple BUCS Premier South League titles and an impressive four BUCS National Championship victories. The programme is built on a foundation of excellence, development, and progression—both on the court and beyond.
A key strength of the programme is its long-standing partnership with London Mavericks (formerly Saracens Mavericks), one of the UK’s leading Super League franchises. This relationship provides players with unrivalled pathways into the professional game, and has already seen over 16 Herts athletes sign Super League contracts.
The programme is led by Mel Mansfield, Director of University Netball and Head Coach of the London Mavericks Next Gen Programme. With years of experience at the top level of Super League Netball, Mel brings elite-level insight, leadership, and a strong player development ethos to Herts.
All athletes involved in the programme benefit from access to outstanding facilities and professional support services, including free Health & Fitness membership, Strength & Conditioning, Physiotherapy, lifestyle support, and academic flexibility. Talented athletes can also apply for a Herts Sports Scholarship, designed to help students succeed both in their sport and their studies.
With a decade of proven success and a clear route to the professional game, Herts Netball continues to lead the way in university sport.
