Club Sport Football 6-a-side Rules

Please read the following guidelines and confirm on Playwaze that you agree to abide by these terms and conditions throughout the competition. 

General

  • Please contact the HertSquad team if you have any queries or problems who are based at the HertSquad Office on the de Havilland campus by emailing hertsquad@herts.ac.uk  
  • It is advised that all players follow @hertsquadclubsport on Instagram for up-to-date news and events.
  • All teams will be required to have two team representatives at the Club Sport Football meeting at 18:00 on Wednesday 19 October in the International Suite at Hertfordshire Sports Village on the de Havilland campus. Failure to comply will result in teams being deducted 3 league points.
  • Teams will be required to arrive 15 minutes early prior to the start of their first fixture to meet the Activators and confirm Club Sport Football rules / ask any pending questions.
  • All equipment (excluding bibs) will be provided.
  • Teams will be assigned a set of bibs for the duration of the league which are to be the responsibility of the team. The bibs are to be worn for each fixture. 

Parking

College Lane

  • Student parking is available on College Lane campus only and students must register for a permit with Hozah, our new parking system provider. For further information on student parking including how to register and where to park, please click here.
  • Students should not park in the Oval car park on the College Lane campus. A 24-hour ANPR system is in place and unauthorised vehicles will receive a parking penalty. 
  • Students are advised to utilise the Park and Ride facility available.

Competition Format

  • All fixtures will be played weekly on Mondays or Tuesdays (unless previously notified). 
  • The competition structure will be confirmed once the entry deadline has passed.
  • All fixtures will be played on the College Lane Oval Pitches.
  • Players must ONLY wear astro trainers or moulded studs on the 3G surface - blades and metallic studs are NOT permitted.

Pre-Competition Requirements

  • Each individual team will be permitted to register up to a maximum of 12 players (male or female).
  • All teams should enter their team via the Playwaze app by 17:00 on Monday 17 October. To secure a team space, teams must have the minimum number of squad players (6) visible under their Playwaze Football squad that have all paid the required individual entry fees (£30 Club membership and £30 Football Club Sport Compete membership) by the entry deadline.
  • One Compete membership is required per league. Therefore, should players wish to play in two leagues, then two Compete memberships would need to be purchased.
  • All players must be listed under their set team by their first fixture and have paid the required individual entry fees.
  • Players will only be approved by the HertSquad Administrator once their membership has been checked. We advise players to purchase their memberships as soon as possible.
  • A £30 refundable cash deposit will be collected at each team’s first fixture and bibs will be provided once this has been collected. Teams will not be able to play until this has been provided.
  • The £30 refundable cash deposit will be returned at the end of the semester providing all assigned bibs are returned and all league fixtures have been completed in accordance to the league rule explained below.*

Competition Rules and Regulations

  • Spectators must spectate from outside the Oval 3G pitch.
  • Only current University of Hertfordshire students can participate in the competition. 
  • Players are required to show their student ID card to the Activator at the start of each fixture. Failure to show a valid ID card could result in that student not being able to play their fixture.
  • Each team captain will be responsible for ensuring only registered players take part in fixtures. Involvement of ineligible (or non-student) players will result in a deduction of 3 points and the loss of the match.
  • If a team is unable to fulfil a fixture, then the competition organiser must be notified asap via the Club Sport mobile by phone or text (07745 728 921) by 17:00 the day before the fixture is scheduled to take place. If the organiser is notified after 17:00 the day before the fixture or a team does not turn up for a match, then £10.00 will be deducted from the deposit submitted at the start of the competition.*
  • All players are required to wear shin pads. If a player does not have shin pads on, then they will not be able to participate in the fixture.
  • All matches are to be played on the date and time stated on the Playwaze app. (Unless otherwise notified by the competition organisers).
  • The referee will be instructed to kick the game off at the allotted time. A team must take to the pitch if there are 4 or more players present. It is the team captain’s responsibility to get players on the pitch ready for kick off. Any delay to the start of the game to allow for players arriving late is at the discretion of the Activator or competition organiser. If, after this time, a team has 3 or less players then the opposition will be awarded a walkover.
  • The duration of each game will be 15 minutes each way with a 2-minute break at half time.
  • All matches will be played in line with the rules stated below. Outside of the rules below, we will refer to standard Football Association Small-Sided Football Laws of the Game for guidance.
  • Substitutes can be rolled on and off at any time the ball goes ‘dead’ providing the referee has permitted it.
  • There are no area restrictions imposed on any player.
  • NO offsides.
  • Goal-kicks must be taken from the goal-line.
  • Goalkeepers CANNOT drop-kick the ball. An indirect free kick where the drop-kick took place will be awarded if applicable.
  • Goalkeepers can only handle the ball in their goal area (shown by markers).
  • Goalkeepers CANNOT pick up a deliberate back pass from their players. Those guilty of this will face an indirect free kick where the offence took place.
  • The ball CAN go over head height.
  • Kick-ins will be used to play the ball in from the sides (no goal can be directly scored from this) and corners.
  • All opponents must be at least 3m from the ball until it is in play for free kicks.
  • Goals can be scored both inside and outside the penalty area.
  • If a penalty is awarded, a maximum of one step can be taken.
  • In the event that the match ball is kicked out of the 3G caged area, either intentionally or unintentionally, it is the responsibility of the team who kicked the ball out to retrieve it. If an alternative match ball is available, then the ‘lost’ ball does not need to be retrieved immediately (the match can continue to its conclusion). However, the ‘lost’ match ball must be returned to either the Activator or referee, by those responsible, prior to the conclusion of Club Sport Football fixtures that afternoon/evening. The referee will stop the clock for any delays due to a ball being retrieved or an alternative ball being located.
  • Wherever possible the competition organisers will provide qualified referees. In the event this is not possible, experienced players will officiate matches.
  • Players in Club Sport Football will be expected to maintain appropriate standards of behaviour. Failure in players maintaining the appropriate standards of behaviour could result in the HertSquad Team taking relevant action (where applicable to the University) and seeking to impose sanctions where appropriate to the behaviour / incident.  
  • Any player receiving a yellow card in a fixture will result in them being sent to the sin bin for 3 minutes. The referee will make the player aware when they can re-join the match. Any singular yellow cards will be wiped clean at the end each match.
  • Two yellow cards in a match will result in a red overall (please see below).
  • Any player receiving a red card:
    • Will be subject to a ban determined by the competition organiser based on the nature of the offence(s).
    • Will be asked to vacate the playing area at the time of the red card being shown.
    • May not be permitted to spectate matches within the duration of their ban.
  • Points will be awarded as follows:

           Win – 3 points                  Draw – 1 point                  Loss – 0 points

  • Any team winning by a walkover (i.e. no show or unacceptable cancellation from the opposition) will be deemed to have won by a score of 5-0 (unless the competition organisers decide otherwise).
  • A team will be withdrawn from the league should they fail to fulfil 3 league fixtures (i.e. no-show) without informing the competition organiser via the Club Sport mobile.
  • In the event of the final league table being tied on points, score difference will be calculated. If still level, match wins will be the determining factors.

Post-Match Requirements

  • Each team captain is required to sign the referee’s scorecard post-match which should then be handed to the league Activator straight away.
  • Any complaints must be made in writing to the HertSquad Office within 24 hours of the match’s conclusion.

N.B. These competition rules may be subject to change at any time. Team captains will be informed by email of any alterations at the first available opportunity.

 

Club Sport Football 9-a-side Rules

Club Sport Netball Rules

  • All equipment will be provided.

De Havilland

  • Students can park in the de Havilland campus car park from 19:00 on Tuesday evenings for the Club Sport Netball league.
  • Students are not permitted to park on the de Havilland campus before 19:00 weekday evenings. An ANPR system is in place prior to this time and unauthorised vehicles will receive a parking penalty.
  • Students are advised to utilise the Park and Ride facility prior to 19:00.

Competition Format 

  • All fixtures will be played on Tuesday evenings (unless previously notified). 
  • The competition structure will be confirmed after the entry deadline has passed. 
  • All fixtures will be played indoors at Hertfordshire Sports Village on the de Havilland Campus (unless previously notified).

Pre-Competition Requirements  

  • Each individual team will be permitted to register up to a maximum of 14 female players. Male players are not eligible to participate. 
  • A squad will consist of a minimum of 7 and a maximum of 14 players.
  • All teams should enter their team via the Playwaze app by 17:00 on Monday 17 October. To secure a team space, teams must have the minimum number of squad players (7) visible under their Playwaze Netball squad that have all paid the required individual entry fees (£30 Club membership and £30 Netball Club Sport Compete membership) by the entry deadline.
  • All players must be listed under their set team by their first fixture and have paid the required individual entry fees.
  • Players will only be approved by the HertSquad Administrator once their membership has been checked. We advise players to purchase their memberships as soon as possible.
  • A £20 refundable cash deposit will be collected at each team’s first fixture. Teams will not be able to play until this has been provided.
  • The £20 refundable cash deposit will be returned at the end of the semester providing all league fixtures have been completed in accordance to the league rule explained below. * 

Competition Rules and Regulations 

  • Spectators must spectate from the balcony.
  • Only current University of Hertfordshire students can participate in the competition.   
  • Any students playing for the University of Hertfordshire British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) 1st and 2nd representative netball teams are NOT allowed to play.
  • Players are required to show their student ID card to the Activator at the start of each fixture. Failure to show an ID card could result in that player not being able to play their fixture. 
  • Each team captain will be responsible for ensuring only registered players take part in fixtures. Involvement of ineligible players will result in a deduction of 3 points and the loss of the match. 
  • If a team is unable to fulfil a fixture, please contact the HertSquad Team via the Club Sport mobile by phone or text (07745 728 921) by 17:00 the day before the fixture is scheduled to take place. If the organisers are notified after 17:00 the day before the fixture or a team does not turn up for a match, then £10.00 will be deducted from the deposit submitted at the start of the competition. * 
  • All matches will be played in line with the current Rules of England Netball. 
  • It is not a requirement for players to wear skirts. However, they can if they wish to. 
  • Players may not wear anything that could endanger themselves or other players, specifically:  
  1. No jewellery may be worn other than a wedding ring which must be covered with tape.  
  2. A medical alert bracelet may be worn provided it is covered with tape.  
  3. Fingernails must be short and smooth.  
  4. Hair must be suitably tied back.
  • Players will not be able to play should the above points (a-d) not be adhered to. 
  • All matches are to be played on the date and time stated on the Playwaze app. (Unless otherwise notified by the competition organisers).
  • The umpires will be instructed to start the game off at the allotted time. A team must take the court if there are at least 5 players present, one of whom must play as centre. It is the team captain’s responsibility to get players on the court ready for the start. Any delay to the start of the game to allow for players arriving late is at the discretion of the Activator or competition organiser. If, after this time, a team has 4 or less players then the opposition will be awarded a walkover.  
  • The duration of each game shall consist of 4 quarters of 10 minutes with intervals of 2 minutes between quarters. Teams shall change ends each quarter. 
  • Teams can make substitutions and / or team changes during an interval or when play is stopped for injury / illness or blood.  
  • Wherever possible the competition organisers will provide qualified umpires. In the event this is not possible, experienced players will officiate matches.  
  • Players in Club Sport Netball will be expected to maintain appropriate standards of behaviour. Failure in players maintaining the appropriate standards of behaviour could result in the HertSquad Team taking relevant action (where applicable to the University) and seeking to impose sanctions where appropriate to the behaviour / incident. 
  • Points will be awarded as follows: 

           Win – 3 points                    Draw – 1 point                    Loss – 0 points 

  • Any team winning by a walkover (i.e. no show or unacceptable cancellation from the opposition) will be deemed to have won by a score of 20-0 (unless the competition organisers decide otherwise).  
  • A team will be withdrawn from the league should they fail to fulfil 3 league fixtures (i.e. no-show) without informing the competition organiser via the mobile number stated above. 
  • In the event of the final league table being tied on points, score difference will be calculated. If still level, match wins will be the determining factors.
