Time to get your body moving, dance and sing to great music – moving to the rhythm of the beat. Zumba is an aerobic Latin-infused and international dance class with a mix of low to high intensity cardio. Dancing to the beats of salsa, flamenco and merengue music, it’s a great way to burn loads of calories without even noticing. It feels more like a dance party than a workout, which is exactly what makes Zumba so popular. Every Zumba class is designed to bring people together to sweat it out and have fun.
Our high-energy classes feature choreographed dance numbers but you don’t have to be a great dancer to feel welcome in a Zumba class. With the tag line, ‘Ditch the Workout, Join the Party,’ there is an emphasis on moving to the music whilst having a good time. These sessions are a full body workout, fusing all elements of fitness, from cardio to body conditioning and from balance to flexibility. Working up a sweat in a 60 minute class burns an average of 369 calories! Zumba will boost your energy and provide a serious dose of joy each time you leave a class. You will not want to stop moving!
Zumba class intensity level
Zumba is an interval workout. The classes move between high to low intensity dance moves designed to get your heart rate up and boost cardio endurance.
What does Zumba improve?
Core: Many of the dance steps used in the routines emphasise the hips and mid-section to help strengthen the core.
Legs: The choreographed movements use the legs in jumps and lunges to help work the quads and hamstrings.
Glutes: You will definitely feel the burn whilst you move to the beat.
Flexibility: The dance moves are designed to enhance flexibility.
Aerobic: The high and low intensity intervals make Zumba an excellent cardio workout.
Strength: Zumba workouts emphasise strengthening the core.
What health conditions is Zumba good for?
If you have diabetes, Zumba is a great way to lose weight and build muscle. Your blood sugars will go down as your energy level soars. Apart from losing weight, Zumba can help lower your risk of heart disease, reduce your blood pressure and bad cholesterol, as well as boosting good cholesterol. Stay clear of high-impact moves if you have knee, back pain or arthritis.
