This course prepares you for working in the health and fitness industry as a fitness instructor. You will learn how to plan, instruct and evaluate gym based instructions and client programmes. This course is suitable for people who already possess a good level of health and fitness and take an active interest in the sports industry. It is also a useful additional qualification for students of sport and exercise related courses who wish to work either part or full time in the health and fitness industry.
The course covers the following units of study:

• Anatomy and Physiology for Exercise
• Know how to support clients who take part in Exercise and Physical Activity
• Health Safety and Welfare in a Fitness Environment
• Principles of Exercise
• Fitness and Health
• Planning Gym-based exercise
• Instructing Gym-based exercise

Duration

12 week contact hours every Thursday from 18:00-21:00 .

Thursday 5 March  - Thursday 21 May 2026.
Equivalent to 37.5 hours of learning

Assessment Days for the course will be Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 May 2026.
